StockTwits is a social media platform designed for sharing ideas between investors, traders, and entrepreneurs. It was listed as the Top 50 Innovative websites by Time Magazine & Fast Company.

More than 1.3 million investors, market professionals and public companies use StockTwits, producing streams that are viewed by an audience of over 40 million across web and social media platforms.

Project Summary

Closely working with StockTwit’s internal team, we undertook a security and performance audit that led to rebuilding the majority of the frontend, improving the overall functioning of the social media platform for investors. We further assisted with migration and improvements of the existing code.

The Solution

Rebuilding and optimizing core mechanics

Our engineers undertook a security and performance audit of the StockTwits core platform prior to launch and formed a development team to implement the findings. Initial project plan was to optimize the existing platform, but after more accurate assessment we ended up building almost the entire front-end, optimizing the deployment strategy and improving the overall security of this social media platform designed for investors, traders and entrepreneurs.

We closely cooperated with the client’s internal team, participated in daily meetings and helped with migration and improvements of already existing code.

Improving a platform for over 1.3 million investors

We identified multiple performance bottlenecks and removed them – improving the system speed significantly. Additionally, we identified several potential security issues that we addressed before the launch.

Also, we significantly improved the experience and security for over 1.3 million investors, traders and entrepreneurs sharing investment ideas and financial information on the StockTwits social media platform. Server-side rendering was improved roughly 5 times. There were also some server-side processing improvements which on a long run saves resources.
